The current window may consist of MENU COMMANDS and SUB-MENUS. A menu command executes DOS commands and application programs. A sub-menu pops up another window that may contain more menu commands or other sub-menus.
TO EXECUTE A MENU COMMAND: Position the highlight bar on the desired command title and press <Enter>. The command will automaticaly execute. After execution is complete or you exit the selected program, the AutoPilott menu screen will re-appear and return you to your previous menu and position.
TO ENTER A SUB-MENU: Positon the highlight bar on the desired sub-menu title and press <Enter>. The selected sub-menu will pop-up on the screen. To exit the sub-menu press <ESC>. This will return you to the parent menu.
TO EXIT AUTOPILOTT: Press <ESC> until you are in the primary menu and press <ESC> on more time. Select "Yes" to exit AutoPilott. Use <Alt><F10> to exit AutoPilott from any menu or sub-menu.
TO EDIT AUTOPILOTT COMMANDS AND MENUS: Make sure you have sufficient rights to the AutoPilott directory, then start AutoPilott in "Maintenance Mode" by typing "AUTO /M" at the DOS prompt. Press <ESC>
Inserting Commands or Sub-menus
Pressing <Ins> allows you to insert a menu command or sub-menu. A menu command executes DOS commands and application programs. A sub-menu pops up another window that may contain more menu commands or other Sub-Menus.
First enter the command or sub-menu title to appear in the window and press <Enter>. To retrieve previously deleted commands or sub-menus, press <Ins> a second time then select the title to retrieve from the paste buffer.
Next select either "Sub-menu" or "Command" as appropriate. If you select "Sub-Menu" you are done. If you select "Command" a text editor appears to enter the DOS batch file commands to execute for this menu command.
Editing Text
In the text editor you can read through text, type in new text, delete text, or move blocks of text from one place to another. When you are finished, press the <Esc>.
You can use the following keys to edit the current text:
PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN, SPECIAL UP, SPECIAL DOWN, SPECIAL RIGHT, SPECIAL LEFT, UP, DOWN, RIGHT, LEFT, FIELD RIGHT (WORD RIGHT), FIELD LEFT (WORD LEFT), DELETE, BACKSPACE, and CANCEL. (For a more complete description of each key use press <F1> a second time.)
To delete a block of text, press the MARK key at one end of the block. Then move the cursor to the other end of the block and press the DELETE key.
To move a block of text, delete it as explained above, then position the cursor where you want to paste the text. Finally, press the INSERT key to insert the text at the current cursor location. Press the INSERT key multiple times to duplicate the block of text.
File Search Restrictions
"Intelligent Command Filtering" is the THE MOST POWERFUL FEATURE of the AutoPilott Menu System and can save the System Manager hours of time on a network.
AutoPilott will analyze the command text for each command, and build a list of "File Search Restrictions". This list will consist of all of the commands where DOS will need to find the file and execute it. This list will not include DOS internal command, labels, batch commands, etc. If any of the commands in the File Search Restrictions List do not exist while AutoPilott is executed in User Mode, then the command will be filtered out of the user's menu. In Maintenance Mode, commands that would be filtered will be marked with an asterisk (*).
Intelligent Command Filtering is most useful in a network environment. This will significantly reduce the amount of time required to integrate local hard drives and network drives where access rights may vary or applications may not be installed.

The reasons why a command in the File Search Restrictions list may not actualy exist are as follows:
1. The user has insufficient access rights to see the program files.
2. The drive where the program files are installed does not exist for this user or workstation.
3. The program files were never installed or were deleted.
4. The command text for this option includes a syntax mistake.
For any of the above reasons, the command option will be filtered out of the users menu.
You may enter the File Search Restictions list and modify, add or delete commands that appear to more fully customize your menu.

Modifying Commands or Sub-menus
Pressing <F3> allows you to modify a menu command's title and command text or a sub-menu's title. A menu command executes DOS commands and application programs. A sub-menu pops up another window that may contain more menu commands or other Sub-Menus.
First edit the command or sub-menu title to appear in the window and press <Enter>.
If you are modifying a sub-menu you are done. If you are modifying a command the text editor appears to edit the DOS batch file commands to execute for this menu command.
Deleting Commands or Sub-menus
Pressing <Del> allows you to delete menu commands or sub-menus. Optionaly use the <F5> mark key to mark several items for deletion, then press <Del> to delete them.
Select "Yes" to delete or "No" to cancel.
NOTE: Deleted commands or sub-menus are kept in a paste buffer until you exit AutoPilott or execute a menu command. Press <Ins> twice to retrieve items in the paste buffer.
The 'paste buffer' contains commands and sub-menus that have been deleted in the current session. Anything in the paste buffer may be 'pasted' into the current window.
If you execute a command or exit AutoPilott, the contents of the paste buffer will be lost forever.
